Wellness and meditation room design

Wellness rooms are up 27% in demand according to the AIA Home Design Trends Survey, and searches for wellness rooms have tripled in two years. It is the new room of the contemporary home.

A wellness room is not a spare room with a mat. It is a space designed to lower your pulse: no structural noise, no glare, stable temperature, light dimmable to almost zero and materials the body recognises.

We design everything from a nine square metre meditation room to a full wellness wing with sauna, experience shower, cold plunge and recovery lounge.

What a wellness room can hold

Meditation and breathwork

Warm floor, support at your back, no glare and a single visual focus. Short acoustics so the inner voice does not compete with an echo.

Yoga and movement

Continuous surface, adequate clear height, controlled mirror, concealed storage and silent ventilation that renews air without draught.

Heat and cold

Finnish or infrared sauna, contrast shower or cold plunge, with waterproofing, drainage and ventilation resolved in the project, not on site.

Recovery and daytime rest

A daybed or lounge chair, full blackout, discreet surround sound and amber light below eye level.

What actually makes it work

Acoustic isolation

The point that ruins most projects. Acoustic door, decoupled partitions and control of services noise to bring the room below 30 dBA.

Light dimmable to zero

Circuits that truly dim to 1%, tunable colour temperature and zero parasitic LED indicators.

Temperature and humidity

Underfloor heating or air conditioning with no perceptible draught, plus humidity control where water or steam is in the brief.

Material and touch

Wood, lime, linen, wool and stone. Nothing glossy, nothing cold underfoot, nothing that sounds hollow.

How we do it

1. Brief session

We define which practices will happen in the room, for how many people and at what hours. Everything else follows from that.

2. Concept and feasibility

We check height, structure, drainage, ventilation and available power before drawing anything beautiful.

3. Technical design

Drawings, construction details, finish specification, lighting, climate and sauna or water equipment.

4. Build and commissioning

Site supervision and final tuning of light, sound and temperature with the room in real use.

Indicative investment

Design fees. Construction and equipment (sauna, water, climate) are quoted separately according to the brief.

Frequently asked questions

How much space do I need?

Eight to ten square metres is enough for a serious meditation and movement room. For sauna and a water zone, things start working from around fifteen square metres.

Can it be done in an apartment?

Yes. Infrared sauna, acoustic isolation and mechanical ventilation are viable in urban homes; cold plunge depends on structure and drainage.

What does the build cost?

A well-resolved meditation room usually lands between 12,000 and 35,000 €. With sauna and a water zone the range rises significantly with equipment.

Does it add value to the property?

In prime residential, yes: it is a differentiating space in marketing and one of the first buyers remember.

If you have a room without a clear use or an underused basement, that is usually the best wellness room in the house. Let us look at it together.
